Capital Pride 2005

Washington DC’s 30th annual gay pride parade was held Saturday evening, June 11 2005.

The parade offered few surprises. A “PFLAG Dad” shows his support for his daughter, while members from clubs affiliated with Brother Help Thyself donned leather and hardhats to show their pride.

Mark Jaros from Fort Lauderdale and Van Neel of Arlington wathched the parade as it turned onto 17th Street, a popular corner for parade viewing and the heart of DC gay nightlife.

What would gay pride day be without buff half-naked dudes tossing their beads to the adoring crowd?

Saturday night, Richard Morel, top left and above, hosted Blowoff at the Back Bar at the 9:30 club. The occasional party has drawn a cult following of Bears.

Sunday’s Festival brough hot weather, but not so much that it kept too many people away, as scorching heat has done in years past. Above, Alex from South Carolina cools off by dousing himself at a drinking fountain.

A flagger dances in the afternoon sun at a pride festival side stage area.

Kelly Meadows, far left, and her girlfriend Teresa Glaze, both of southern Maryland, dance as Davi Anson-Dross from the “100% all girl kickass” rock group Outskirts performs. The cover band kicked off their summer tour by performing a solid and entertaining set of classic rock and blues to an engrossed crowd.
