The iPhone 3G was launched today, July 11, 2008. A half-block-long line flowed from an Apple store in Bethesda, MD, today at about 2:30 p.m., where the next man in line said he’d been waiting since 8:30 a.m. The new version of the device, which uses a faster 3G technology for web surfing, sells at a cheaper price than the first generation but has a more expensive service plan. This image was taken with a first-generation iPhone.

Barenaked Ladies held a “Double Dipper” set Sunday, January 27, 2008, during Ships and Dip III for fans who were on the cruise for the second time (S&D III was actually the second cruise, not the third). During the set, BNL performed their songs picked randomly from a bucket of requests provided by fans, some of which they hadn’t sung for years. Above, Steven Page and Ed Robertson get some help from a lyric book, provided by one of the fans. They played everything that was pulled (”F@%k it, it’s in the bucket!”), with the exception of “One Week.” Page said something to the effect of “I don’t come on the cruise to play ‘One Week.’” Fans agreed.
