In a rare unplanned encore demanded by fans, Barenaked Ladies performed fan-favorite “
When I Fall” during their first regular concert, Tuesday, January 29, 2008, on the rock-and-roll cruise “Ships and Dip III,” hosted by the band. The narrative is sung from the point of view of a greasy window washer looking into a corporate boardroom from his perch on the outside. He doesn’t care for his job, and his mind wanders, asking the listener to support him in his inevitable failures. “I wish I could fly from this building, from this wall,” Ed Robertson, center, sings. “And if I should try, would you catch me if I fall, when I fall?” Steven Page sings backup and Jim Creeggan plays upright bass. The rest of the band joins in finishing the gentle song, ending the concert.
