Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C.

C. Paul Heins, the music director for Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C. (LGCW) since April 2003, directs the chorus in rehearsal prior to their concert last Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church. LGCW, a charter member of the GLBT Arts Consortium, celebrated their 25th Anniversary with a performance of the commissioned piece “Under the Greenwood Tree,” by Robert Convery.

D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty proclaimed January 24, 2009, Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, DC Day. [pdf]

LGCW, whose ties to the DC gay community go back to when they held a few rehearsals at long-gone drag bar “Rogue” according to member Jill Strachan, will hold an open house for prospective members at the Parish of St. Monica & St. James, on Tuesday, February 10, at 6:30-8 p.m.

Meridian Hill Park Dancers

Dancers

Every Sunday from mid afternoon until late in the evening at Meridian Hill Park in Washington DC, a large group of dancers, drummers, and the occasional tightrope walker or hula hooper gather to participate in what can best be described as a human circus. According to the most common version of the origin of the circle, it can be said that it started as a way to celebrate the life of Malcom X after his death in 1965.
