Great Falls National Park Kayaking

A kayaker takes advantage of an unseasonably warm day this past Sunday at Great Falls National Park in Great Falls, Virginia. The falls have a vertical drop of 76 feet over their length and are classified as class 5-6 rapids on the International Scale of River Difficulty. Kayakers must enter the river from the Maryland side however as entry from the Virginia side is illegal and the National Park Service discourages individuals from kayaking due to the high number of deaths recorded in the river each year. Phillies Win! SEPTA Supports the Home Team

During my visit to Philadelphia last Saturday, October 18, the South Eastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority displayed support for the home team with the phrase “Go Phillies!!!” rotating on forward bus displays. The Philadelphia Phillies won the 2008 World Series last night, Wednesday, October 29, in Philadelphia.

Alex Rodriguez hits homer 536 in his career to match Yankee great Mickey Mantle, tying him at 13th place for major-league career home runs, during the final game of the four-game series at Yankee Stadium against the Boston Red Sox, Sunday, July 6, 2008. The Yankees won 5-4 with a bottom-of-the-10th RBI by Yankee freshman Brett Gardner. Homeless USA Cup Soccer at the New Kastles Stadium

The Homeless USA Cup brought street soccer players from across the country to Washington, D.C.’s new Kastles Stadium this weekend. The team from Minneapolis won the championship game, Sunday June 29, 2008. At top right, one player from New York City is overjoyed to learn he has been picked to join the the US team that will travel to the Homeless World Cup in Melbourne, Australia.

Kastles Stadium is the newly created stadium at 11th & H, NW, for the World TeamTennis Pro League Washington Kastles, featuring Serena Williams and Justin Gimelstob, who will have their home opener at the stadium on July 8.

Washington Nationals manager Frank Robinson says goodbye to fans at the opening of today’s Nationals v. Mets game at RFK Stadium. Robinson and General Manger Jim Bowden announced officially yesterday that Robinson would not return to manage the team next year.

After Double Victories, Washington Renegades RFC Holds After-Match Social at Titan Bar

On Saturday, September 16, 2006, The Washington Renegades A and B sides each won their matches: Against PAC “C” and the Philly Gryphons, bringing the A-side fall season record to 2-0 and the B-side to 1-1. The social, held at Titan Bar, was a wild affair with three clubs eating, drinking, singing and swearing. A new Renegades team photo was unveiled on the wall of the bar, the official pub of the Renegades.

Rory Tomlinson, 16, the smallest and second-youngest player for Banting, RFC, scored the game-winning try to capture the Championship in the High School Division.

The Green Line arrives to whisk members of Banting, RFC, back into the city.

Not pictured, Navy Men and Navy Women won the men’s and women’s cup championships.

“She ain’t heavy, she’s my sister.” I believe these two rugger women are from Navy, the Womens Division champions. Taking a lap around the field before the final match, one rugger gives another a lift.

The semi-final between Fairfield Prep and Banting was brutal.

Moments before downing a Banting player (below) Fairfield’s #2 charges up his teammates.

One Banting player, Drew, was hit hard to the chest by a fast Fairfield rugger’s charge, then piled on by more. After a few minutes examination, Drew walked off the field to a nice chair in the shade. After the loss of their player, Banting yelled battle cries of revenge. The violence heated up on both sides, barely allowing the teams to make contact without starting a fight.

A Firfiled Prep rugger listens to fellow players and his coach after being eliminated by Banting, RFC. Banting went on to win the High School Division.
