One Man’s Pride

Danny Guyton, from Bethesda, MD, during the Capital Pride Festival, Sunday, June 15th, 2008, in Washington, D.C. Guyton can be seen yelling at the anti-gay protesters’ bullhorn the night before in the the WaPhoJo video “Anti-Gay Bullhorn Protest Met With Crowd Ridicule,” which was published last week. Asked about that moment, he recalled he was arguing to the protesters that they were misinterpreting a “glorious book … of love.”

Anti-Gay Bullhorn Protest Met With Crowd Ridicule

Stephen McRae and Alan Russel traveled three hours from Somerset, PA to the Washington, D.C. Capital Pride Parade to protest gay people. The two shouted on a bullhorn in Dupont Circle “for four hours,” said McRae. A young crowd surrounded the men, taunting them, laughing at them, with some trying to reason with them. When I asked if they were driving home that night, McRae said, “I don’t know… The crowd seems to be welcoming us pretty good, so we might stick around.”

All photos from Pride will be posted this weekend in a photo album, from which you may order prints or downloads. Look for a post later this weekend.
